Karen Ann (Karen) Suhr
1944-07-15 2001-04-07
From the 40-year reunion directory:
Karen graduated from CSU with a B.A. in English in 1966. She returned to CSU to continue her studies in English, working on her master's degree while serving as a teaching assistant in the English Department. She planned either to teach in college, or work in publishing. With her masters nearly completed, she had the opportunity to go to Norway to teach English in a small coastal town, but instead married Lyle Suhr, who had just completed his education and received his degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
Karen and Lyle moved to Arnold, Nebraska in 1968. She taught high school English and Spanish in Broken Bow from 1968 to 1969. The next year, she stayed home and helped Lyle build a veterinary clinic on the north edge of Arnold. She worked as full-time receptionist-bookkeeper-veterinary assistant until their son, Alan, was born in March, 1971. From then on, she worked there part-time. Their daughter, Kristin, was born in June, 1974.
Karen was active in Zion Lutheran Church and served as member and officer of Arnold Chamber of Commerce, Hospital Board and Library Board and a member of the Library Foundation Board. She was active in the Auxiliary to the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Associaton, serving as president and media chairman.
