Profiles and Bios

If you are a member of the 1962 graduating class, or would have been if you had stayed at Wheat Ridge High, we would really like you to create a profile and tell something about yourself. You can always update your profile with current information. Your address, phone number and email address are not visible to anyone other than yourself and the website administrator. You can contact other Classmates through the 'Send This Person a Message' link below their profile.

This page has a 'Where Are They Now' button which, when clicked, displays a map of the cities and states where registered classmates live. You might be living near someone and not know it!

Check out the 'Sort' and 'Search' functions. The more classmates that register, the more handy these features will become.

Your registration helps attract other classmates to the site. The effectiveness of the website is a direct correlation to the number of classmates who register. Registering also enables you to post to the Message Board.

After hopes of pursuing a college education were dashed with the passing of my father, I embarked on my lifelong career with the federal government (2/63) as a draftsman with the Bureau of Reclamation at the Denver Federal Center. With some college course work at CU Denver, I moved upward as a Civil Engineering Technician. I left the Bureau in July of  ‘72 and transferred to the Federal Housing Administration as an Architectural Examiner in the Denver Insuring Office of the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. Eventually I became a Multifamily Construction Contract Administrator and twenty five years later (‘97) VP Gore reinvented the government and gave me an early retirement. Passing through the revolving door, I contracted back as a consultant doing construction contract administration and continue in semi-retirement to this day. Along the way I met and married  Joyce Lambert in ‘70 (Jefferson High ’66). We were blessed with two sons, John Jr. and Jeremy, daughter JoAnna, and nine grandkids between them. We have made the Bear Creek area our home for the past 34 years. Along the way I managed to coach both boys little league baseball teams, volunteered for and served as an officer of the Bear Creek Junior Sports Association including two stints a president. Now days I continue my love of bowling, play golf, very poorly, lead an active church life, and am making a return attempt at becoming an artist, in these, our golden years.

Thanks Scott for all your effort and this wonderful webpage, and to the committee for your efforts. See you in August.

Things are good.  I'm now retired and doing some consulting. Still riding my motorcycle all over, buying the occasional fix/flip house with my son, skiing and traveling.  My wife works part time for an airline which makes the traveling interesting.  Dallas for lunch and then home.  That kind of thing.  Hope everybody is doing well.  Bill

I lived at the corner of 41st & Harlan - where the greenhouse is, just up from where the Lakeside mall was.

My grand parents purchased the property in 1919. It was originally about 5 ac in size & ran from 41st to 43rd & from Gray to Harlan (originally Idlewild St.) At the time it was tomato fields & a fruit orchard. The property was divided between my aunts & uncles in the '40s' & most was sold to a housing developer. Some of you may remember living in those houses just across from the park.

My sister Lois, brother Ken & I still own the property & have it leased out. It's now Southwest Gardens.

I went to Mtn. View Elementary & then to Wheatridge Jr & Senior High. I sort of lost focus & quit school in the middle of my Junior yr. & Joined the US Navy.

Looking back at being the not so studious kid that I was, that decision made me grow up quick & put the capital "O" back in Order for me. During the 4 yrs. I was in, Kennedy called up the military reserves because of the Cuban missile crisis. I was on a Destroyer type of ship, the USS Laws. We were deployed for a 6 month cruise of the western Pacific”WesPac”. It included ports in Hawaii, Guam, Midway, Philippines, Japan. Okinawa & South Korea. It was a measure of readiness for the country at the time. I was discharged just before "Nam" got rolling.

I worked for NCR in Denver, Ft Collins Co. & Rancho Bernardo Ca. fixing cash registers, ATMs & computers. When NCR offered an early retirement package, I took it & retired after 34 yrs.

At that point I still needed to work but the thought in your mind is “am I still employable at the age of 54”? Then as luck would have it Hitachi Data Systems needed someone with NCR experience & there I was. I've been there 14 yr now.

WOW, the time really flew by!

I was always a hammer & nail guy & when I got home from the Navy dad asked me if I remembered how to weld from my metal shop class. I did. So we put up the 1st of 4 greenhouses & the rest of them came later.

I moved to Ft Collins where I met my 1st wife. We built our home by Horsetooth Reservoir, doing the physical labor ourselves. That took its toll & as can happen we ended up divorcing.

Still with NCR, I moved back to Denver. My dad & I built a spec house just southeast of Rocky Flats by Lyden.

I met my 2nd wife Judi in Aurora. A couple years passed & her boys moved out to other areas of the country. Shortly after we got a transfer to "sunny" San Diego in '87' - no snow - but plenty of fires.

We get back to Denver once a year sometimes more to see relatives & friends.

All in all it's been a good ride - good jobs, built a couple of houses, did some remodels, a couple of marriages, 2 kids & 5 grand kids.

We just purchased a motorhome & will do some additional traveling – a trip to Denver for the reunion is included.

I am anxious to meet up with everyone again. See you there!

Keep Smiling :^)

Which faculty members do you best remember: Hmmm, probably Mr Wallace in Band or our English teacher. When she came by the greenhouse to buy flowers, she always had good thing to say about me to my mom. Even though I may not have been so deserving.
What was fun to do in Wheat Ridge during your high school years: I believe there was a 1/4 mile marked off on 32nd just east of the school & I know I tried to see how fast I could make my 64 Olds run thru it.

Comment: Greetings from Montana!  Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the reunion, but I wish all of you a great time as you celebrate!

My life has been filled with many blessings!  After high school, I attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, earning my BA in Education.  My first teaching job was in Anchorage, Alaska, where I taught third grade for two years.  It is also the place where I met my future husband, Mike Preyer, who coincidentally happens to be a  graduate of Jefferson High School in Edgewater, Colorado.

After my time in Alaska, I went to Garrett Theological Seminary for one year of education.  Then Mike and I were married.  We spent the next 21/2 years living in Schweinfurt, Germany.  Mike  was in the Army there, and  I taught second grade  at the American School.  Our first daughter Julie was born there.

When we returned to the States, we both attended graduate school at CSU.  I earned my Master's Degree in Reading Education.  At a time when teaching jobs were hard to find, we ended up moving to Wolf Point, Montana, on the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation. Mike was a school administrator, and I taught elementary school,    junior high English, and high school Basic English.  I retired after 27 years of teaching!

Unfortunately, we were only able to have one birth child.   So, we adopted our second daughter at the age of three.  We had many challenges raising her, but there were also some surprising blessings!

In 1997 MIke and I joined the Peace Corps for service in the Philippines.  Our service was cut short there, however, by health issues and our inability to adapt to the extreme heat and humidity.  However, it was a great adventure!

We returned to the States and settled in Laurel, Montana.  We both worked for several years before officially retiring.  We moved to Columbus, Montana, and we built our present home on 21 acres of beautiful mountain property.

During the past twelve years we have been blessed to do some amazing international travel!  We enjoyed four trips to South America, our favorite being a trek on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.  We also enjoyed doing treks in Chile, Argentina, and Ecuador, as well as visiting the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica, and China.  Last summer we returned to Germany for a trip down memory lane, a family reunion in Italy, and a family heritage trip to France.

As you all well know, life is not perfect. Sad, tragic things happen!  In 2005 we lost our oldest daughter Julie in a tragic  car accident in Canada.  She was living there with her Marine husband who was doing a pilot exchange with the Canadian Air Force.  Their precious daughter has Down Syndrome and was only 21/2 years old when her mom died.  We were and still are heartsick for our great loss, but we continue to be thankful that we had 32 amazing years with our amazing daughter!  Moreover, we still have a wonderful relationship with her husband and our special granddaughter.

Overall, I feel very blessed with all that life has given me!  I have an amazing husband, wonderful family, and many good friends.  Most of all, I have my faith in a loving, everpresent Higher Power who gives me guidance, strength, and unconditional love!

Well, I guess that 's enough about me!  Best regards to  all of  you "old" high school friends!
