May 31, 1944 Furniture Sales Married 3 Proudly putting to bed our first edition of the 1961/1962 school newspaper only to learn we forgot to date it, or tell what edition it was. Mr. Work, biology teacher and coach. Farmer's Barn dances.
Richard passed away May 29, 2015.

Genie and I have been married for forty years now.  Together we have raised two wonderful daughters and are proud they both have Masters degrees. We love to travel and have visited many locations on our continent and also Europe. Together, we belong to the High Country Hikers (a local Volksmarch club) and are currently planning a trip to Italy to hike in the alps. We also like to golf, bike, and just enjoy the outdoors.

Genie is now retired from teaching school but I am still selling furniture.  I have been in the furniture business for most of my career, have managed several stores, but am currently back doing what I did forty years ago (I enjoy it more now as I now don't have the pressure I once had).  I work with several good friends with whom I worked many years ago.

What a FAST 50 years this has been!!!I've so enjoyed reading all the profiles.  It seems like we have traveled different paths but day by day we have ended up with a satisfying life.  None of us has "changed the world" but we have contributed in a positive way.  After graduation, I attended CSC (now UNC) and became a business teacher.  I taught 1 year in Colorado Springs and 31 years at Englewood High School.  Along the way I received a MBE from CU and lacked only a thesis of my PhD.  I successfuly showed Quarter Horses until recently and have now evolved into trialing dogs I have trained in sheepherding contests.  I train 3 days a week and  compete on sheep, ducks and cattle.  It is a blast!!  I am a volunteer at the National Western Stock Show, Senior Resource Center, and am still involved with Westernaires.  Besides the sheepherding, I hike, camp, bowl several times a week and just try to be a good friend.  Sorry I can't join you for this reunion but I hope you all have a great time! September 05, 1944 Arts Administrator/Ordained Clergy www.artsatstjohns.com/index.html Married 1 Doing research for papers - honestly. Nerd I am. Mr. Weatherbee, Art teacher, and Mrs. Knudtson, Latin teacher Read. Drink beer. Dance, Sunbathe.

Now I am trying to retire from my job at Arts at St Johns. Since the organization doesn't have much money, it is hard to find a replacement.

My main interest now is native plants of the circum-Caribbean area. I want to write a book on how plants and foods can build bridges between cultures.

We have a home in Miami Beach and another on the NW side of Lake Okeechobee, where we look out upon cattle ranches and palm trees, near the Seminole Reservation. I have planted or uncovered many native plants. This is the area where the prehistoric Glades Indians built a mound community. I really like researching all the culture and environment here.
Sorry I won't be at the reunion. Next time, God willing.

March 26, 1944 Retired Married 3
After high school, I diddled around for a good long while, in places like Mexico, Idaho, Oregon, New York, Arizona, Africa, Spain and Viet Nam, interspersed with attempts at going to school. I earned a meager living as dishwasher, cook, field worker, library assistant, mail sorter, community development worker, soldier, bass player, and framing carpenter. Finally, after Viet Nam, I got married, seriously went to school, and became a family doctor. I worked in various community health centers in California and Arizona, and am currently in part time private practice in Susanville CA. I have a wife, three kids and two grandkids.

In my spare time I build weird guitars, play dobro, and try to keep things running.

I am hoping that I'm living in my last house, from where they'll have to drag me kicking and screaming to the nursing home.

Edit July 2014: I'm retired now, and am playing dobro twice a month in a bluegrass jam and electric bass in a blues/rock jam every week. We even play in local bars, but have yet to be paid for it. My main activity, besides maintenance of the homestead, is building stringed musical instruments - mainly acoustic and electric basses and guitars.
Those in the photo are some Fender knockoffs I completed early this year.

November 20, 1943 Retired from Hitachi Data Systems Married 2 The Friday Nnight foot ball games. Hmmm, probably Mr Wallace in Band or our English teacher. When she came by the greenhouse to buy flowers, she always had good thing to say about me to my mom. Even though I may not have been so deserving. I believe there was a 1/4 mile marked off on 32nd just east of the school & I know I tried to see how fast I could make my 64 Olds run thru it.

I lived at the corner of 41st & Harlan - where the greenhouse is, just up from where the Lakeside mall was.

My grand parents purchased the property in 1919. It was originally about 5 ac in size & ran from 41st to 43rd & from Gray to Harlan (originally Idlewild St.) At the time it was tomato fields & a fruit orchard. The property was divided between my aunts & uncles in the '40s' & most was sold to a housing developer. Some of you may remember living in those houses just across from the park.

My sister Lois, brother Ken & I still own the property & have it leased out. It's now Southwest Gardens.
I went to Mtn. View Elementary & then to Wheatridge Jr & Senior High. I sort of lost focus & quit school in the middle of my Junior yr. & Joined the US Navy.
Looking back at being the not so studious kid that I was, that decision made me grow up quick & put the capital "O" back in Order for me. During the 4 yrs. I was in, Kennedy called up the military reserves because of the Cuban missile crisis. I was on a Destroyer type of ship, the USS Laws. We were deployed for a 6 month cruise of the western Pacific”WesPac”. It included ports in Hawaii, Guam, Midway, Philippines, Japan. Okinawa & South Korea. It was a measure of readiness for the country at the time. I was discharged just before "Nam" got rolling.
I worked for NCR in Denver, Ft Collins Co. & Rancho Bernardo Ca. fixing cash registers, ATMs & computers. When NCR offered an early retirement package, I took it & retired after 34 yrs.
At that point I still needed to work but the thought in your mind is “am I still employable at the age of 54”? Then as luck would have it Hitachi Data Systems needed someone with NCR experience & there I was. I've been there 14 yr now.
WOW, the time really flew by!

I was always a hammer & nail guy & when I got home from the Navy dad asked me if I remembered how to weld from my metal shop class. I did. So we put up the 1st of 4 greenhouses & the rest of them came later.
I moved to Ft Collins where I met my 1st wife. We built our home by Horsetooth Reservoir, doing the physical labor ourselves. That took its toll & as can happen we ended up divorcing.
Still with NCR, I moved back to Denver. My dad & I built a spec house just southeast of Rocky Flats by Lyden.
I met my 2nd wife Judi in Aurora. A couple years passed & her boys moved out to other areas of the country. Shortly after we got a transfer to "sunny" San Diego in '87' - no snow - but plenty of fires.
We get back to Denver once a year sometimes more to see relatives & friends.
All in all it's been a good ride - good jobs, built a couple of houses, did some remodels, a couple of marriages, 2 kids & 5 grand kids.
We just purchased a motorhome & will do some additional traveling – a trip to Denver for the reunion is included.

I am anxious to meet up with everyone again. See you there!
Keep Smiling :^)
