Retired Married 3

(Scott Hightower: Ellen Riley Dattilo asked me to post her profile for her, since she is not a big computer user.).

Back in the "school days" at Wheat Ridge High, two major events started my 'after graduation' life. The first was when Tony and I were married before graduation (which raised some eyebrows), when he was on leave from the Army during the build up for Vietnam. The second was our graduation.

Our first son, Troy was born three years later, followed by son Tim (five years after Troy), and daughter Tonya (five years after Tim). August 11 will mark our 50th anniversary. We have seven wonderful grandchildren, all girls except for one lonely and pampered little boy.

I retired from service with Jeffco Schools in 2001. Tony retired from law enforcement in August of 2010, and we now enjoy seeing our grandchildren and participating in events with Shriners. I guess it's a cliche to say that the years have flown by pretty quickly, but events of yesterday don't seem so far off.

We're lucky that good health has favored us and hope to start checking things off of our bucket list. Next up is an Alaskan cruise that we've been talking about for lots of years.

We make our home in Morrison after several short residential stints in other states which came with Tony's military service and work locations. After having lived in Montana, Tennessee, South Dakota and Texas, we can attest that Colorado is the best place to be, so no plans to move anywhere else.

Best wishes to everyone, and thanks to you for doing a great job on the website - very impressive!!

God Bless!
Ellen Riley (Dattilo)

October 18, 1944 Professor university of colorado denver Married 2

Hi Everyone,
Since graduation from Wheat Ridge, I've lived in Texas, Norway, and Colorado.  I married Ralph Townsend who was two years ahead of me at Wheat Ridege.  We have two grown children, Chris and Holly. Chris is a Field Engineer with Polycom and Holly is a Kindergarten teacher in Jeffco.  They have blessed us with 5 grandchildren.  Our youngest grandchild is 2 years old (Lucy) and the oldest is 21 (Ram).
Ralph and I are approaching our 47th Anniversary.  That's unbelieveable, right?
In addition to a wife, mother, sister, and grandmother (baba - Bulgarian for grandmama), I have been a classroom teacher, reading specialist, principal, and currently a clinical professor in the School of Education and Human Development at CU Denver.
I have loved my time at the University.  I teach in two programs there; one is Literacy, Lauguage and Cultrually Responsive Teaching and the other program is Teacher Licensure.
Ralph has retired from full time chemical engineering but does some consulting with a local engineering firm between golfing dates.  He loves to play golf and is currently up in the mountains with our grandson (Cody) target shooting.
Thanks so much to the committee and to Scott who is organizing all of this!
Best,
Stephie

In 1960 I moved from Maryland to Colorado so I only attended Wheat Ridge during my junior and senior years.  After graduation I attended CU Denver and CSU.  I worked for the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Reclamation at the Denver Federal Center for 40 years before retiring as Reclamation's Printing and Publications Management Officer.  I have 2 sons and 5 grandsons all living in the area.  In 2007 I partnered with my younger son and two others to build and operate the Pipeline Car Wash in Wheat Ridge.  I am enjoying my semi-retirement.  I spend lots of time with my grandkids and love to travel and spend time with friends Send Kathleen a MessageSend Kathleen a Message

July 02, 1944 professor, farmer/rancher Married 2 the trouble we caused at the senior dinner dance (Jay Marx, Chuck Losasso, Don Livonius, others) Mr Pratt several of us got kicked off the baseball team for missing Spring practice while we went on an incredible fishing trip to the Madison River in Montana. Also enjoyed the exchange to Port Washington Wisconsin.
My wife Nancy and I farm and ranch 13 miles north of Ft Collins. I retired last year as a professor of Natural Resouces at Colorado State University. Nancy is an attorney in Ft Collins. Nancy and I  are both active civically in Larimer County (county, planning commission, ag advisory board, open space board etc.)  We raise alfalfa, corn, small grains, grass hay, cattle and have done a lot of restoration, wildlife habitat, and conservation work on our 2 farms (one in Phillips County). We have a string of horses and mules for working stock, training park rangers, packing, hunting etc.

Along the way, I served in the Marine 'Corps and later we both spent 2.5 years as Peace Corps Volunteers in Panama from 67 - 70;  I worked construction, started farming in 72. Directed a project for/with migrant farmworkers and families, directed a Teacher Corps project in Ft. Lupton, got graduate degrees at Univ. of New Mexico and CSU, helped develop a watershed mgmt. project for Central America, living in Costa Rica 2 years. We are more or less settled in and have lived on the Ft Collins farm for 39 years. Look forward to reading about all of you and seeing you in August.

Where does one start? Was NG to Wheatridge in 62', little did I know that being 18 and having a car put me on the beer list first thing. Went on to college and got caught-up in a panty raid with a scholastic attitude vacation. Uncle Sam got me-- sent me all expenses paid to Viet Nam. Got myself shot up and sent home as damaged goods. Tried school again with a different attitude why I was there. Started my own business in earth moving and did well working for oil companies until the first part of 1982, then the oil business hit the skids. Went to work for the State of Colorado, first with the Department of Wildlife and then "CDOT Staff Bridge Design Section ", now I am retired. Married to a great woman and have grandchildren. What a wonderful life......... Send James a MessageSend James a Message
